1. What three words would you use to describe your vision for #NewProfNZ?
It’s quite self-explanatory, isn’t it? So just pick your three words, add a sentence (or two or three!) to explain why you picked those words, and submit it as a comment. I hope to put the terms in a tag cloud and see which terms are the most commonly used. This will help shape our overarching vision for the New Professionals Network in New Zealand!
I’ll start the discussion:
1. The New Professionals’ Network will be a community – this might seem obvious at first glance, but I think it is important to state. At the moment, the new professionals are everywhere in New Zealand, but the community is fragmented. Students at Victoria University in Wellington have their own networks, Open Polytechnic students have theirs, geographic distance makes it hard to collaborate with people from other centers. Distance learning can also result in a lack of community, so my vision is that the New Professionals Network will be a community that connects all of these different factions into one.
2. The New Professionals’ Network will be evolving – new professionals groups (by their very nature) are continually being refreshed as new faces join and older members leave. In addition to this definition, I like to think that this will be a learning community – as evidenced by this start-up. We are building this network up from scratch, giving everyone a voice, and learning from other New Professionals communities around the world.
3. The New Professionals’ Network will be innovative – I think one of the strengths of new graduates or people new to this particular profession is that we see things in a different way from folk who have been in it for a long time. Fresh eyes see new possibilities and ideas, and for people coming from different backgrounds/professions, they are able to draw on their past experiences to be innovative in library contexts. I also hope this network will be flexible and fast-moving so that we can respond to rapidly changing contexts in the information profession.
So that’s my 2c – what about yours?
